The Israeli government on Thursday approved a decision to tighten the nationwide quarantine regime in the country due to an increase in cases of the coronavirus COVID-19.
'In the past two days, we have heard from experts that if we do not take immediate and difficult steps, we will reach the edge of the abyss,' the media quoted Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as saying to members of the government.
The new measures took effect on Friday, September 25 and will remain in effect for at least two weeks, with possible relaxation.
The Jerusalem Post notes that quarantine measures will be stricter than in March. Thus, according to the government, it is necessary to close religious buildings, as well as non-essential enterprises and markets, to reduce the number of public transport routes. Also, it is likely that they will impose a ban on public gatherings, with the exception of those that take place in the bosom of the family.
According to The Jerusalem Post, the cabinet has made a series of recommendations to strengthen the infection control after eight hours of discussions.
