In an Orthodox male monastery located on the island of Konevets in Lake Ladoga, they plan to restore two sketes - Kazan and Konevets. When considering projects for restoration in St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region, these two objects, among others, received positive conclusions, according to 'Nevskie Novosti'.
Both sketes, once intended for the residence of monks who performed a stricter asceticism than the rest of the monastic brethren, were abandoned about a century ago. Today the condition of their buildings is assessed as “limited working capacity”. In the church, it is necessary to strengthen the foundation, install a blind area and renew the floor slabs, as well as dismantle the west porch and make a new one. In addition, the vaults will be insulated here, the floors of the belfry will be repaired, and a new rafter system and a metal staircase will be erected instead of the dilapidated wooden one. The domes of the church and the tent of the bell tower with the dome will also be replaced.
Konevsky Nativity-Theotokos Monastery was founded on Lake Ladoga at the end of the XIV century. Over the years, Alexander II has been here with members of his family, Fyodor Tyutchev, Alexander Dumas, Nikolai Leskov. In the last century, the monastery passed from Russia to Finland and back - and only in 1990 returned to the jurisdiction of the Russian Orthodox Church.
