On the day of commemoration of St. Alexander Nevsky, a procession of many thousands was held in St. Petersburg

On the main avenue of the northern capital - Nevsky - on the day of remembrance of the heavenly patron of the city, the holy noble Prince Alexander, on the day of his memory, a religious procession was held, in which 115 thousand people took part.

According to St. Petersburg Vedomosti, in addition to believers in St. Petersburg, many guests from different cities and countries took part in the prayer procession: a group of priests and laity of Vladimir (the city where the saint was originally buried), a delegation from Serbia headed by the Minister of Religious Affairs , students of schools that bear the name of the revered Russian saint.

September 12 is one of the days of memory of the faithful Alexander Nevsky in the Orthodox calendar. It was on this day in 1724 that Emperor Peter I transferred the relics of the revered Russian prince from Vladimir to the new capital of the country. In memory of this, a religious procession is held annually in St. Petersburg, attracting many believers and tourists from all over the world.

Ahead of the procession was a mobile belfry, announcing the center of St. Petersburg with a bell ringing. She was followed by the clergy in festive vestments, headed by Metropolitan Varsonofy of St. Petersburg and Ladoga. On special frames, believers carried large icons of the Kazan Mother of God and the holy noble prince, decorated with fresh flowers.

When the crowded procession reached Alexander Nevsky Square, it met with another procession, a small one, which came out to meet the large one from the monastery with the relics of the saint. Festive celebrations in the Lavra Metropolitan Garden continued until the evening.

On the same day, September 12, in the Peter and Paul Fortress, an exhibition dedicated to the Ingolstadt Peace, which crowned the Northern War, victorious for Russia in the Peter and Paul era, began its work.
