Father Marcos Pavan is 58 years old. He graduated from the Law School of the University of São Paulo and worked as a lawyer. Beginning in 1991, he began a spiritual formation in Rome, where he studied theology at the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas and philosophy at the Center for Higher Education of the Legionnaires of Jesus Christ. Five years after the beginning of his studies, Marcos Pavan was ordained as a presbyter.
With regard to training in the music field, Father Marcos plays the piano, studied music theory, owns vocal technique and Gregorian singing skills, which he received in educational institutions in Brazil. He studied conducting at the National College of Music and Art in London. Father Pavan has experience as a leader of various musical groups, including the Pueri Vatican Choir Cantores.
In July 2019, after the retirement of Monsignor Massimo Palombella, the former head of the Sistine Music Chapel, the Pontiff appointed his father, Marcos Pavan, as its interim director. Now, however, his appointment as director of the Pontifical Choir has been finally confirmed.
As Siberian Catholic Newspaper reminds, at the beginning of this year Pope Francis issued a special Apostolic Letter in the form of a motu proprio, which included the previously independent Sistine Music Chapel in the Liturgical Services.
