Pope Francis has appointed a new head of the Sistine Chapel Music. According to Vatican News, Monsignor Marcos Pavan from Brazil has become the director of the Pontifical Choir. The appointment took place on the feast of St. Cecilia, to whom Western Christians offer prayers as the heavenly patroness of music. In July 2019, after the retirement of Monsignor Massimo Palombella, the former head of the Sistine Music Chapel, the Pontiff appointed his father, Marcos Pavan, as its interim director. Now, however, his appointment as director of the Pontifical Choir has been finally confirmed. As Siberian Catholic Newspaper reminds, at the beginning of this year Pope Francis issued a special Apostolic Letter in the form of a motu proprio, which included the previously independent Sistine Music Chapel in the Liturgical Services.
