Orthodox believers prepare to prayerfully honor the memory of St. John Chrysostom

On November 26, the Orthodox Church commemorates Saint and Ecumenical Teacher John Chrysostom, so called by his contemporaries for his divinely inspired eloquence. The saint lived in the 4th century and from childhood he received an excellent education and the skills of prayer; in adulthood, he held the chair of the Bishop of Constantinople. His sermons alike touched the hearts of both ordinary people and the educated inhabitants of Byzantium. In his life there were persecutions, and recognition, and solitude in the desert. John Chrysostom interpreted Holy Scripture, wrote many theological works and compiled the rite of the Divine Liturgy that is most often performed in churches. The saint died in exile; thirty years later he was canonized by the church, and his relics were honorably transferred to the capital of the empire.

They pray to Saint John Chrysostom for success in study and work, acquisition of prudence and mastering new skills, protection from evil intentions and drive away thoughts of suicide. Parents offer prayers to the saint so that their children begin to talk as soon as possible.
It is interesting that in previous centuries, it was precisely from the Feast of John Chrysostom that believers went to pilgrimage to holy places. Most likely, this was due to the fact that the entire cycle of agricultural work had been completed by this time, and it was possible to devote more time to spiritual life and the search for a path to personal salvation.
