Главный собор Сербии украсили мозаикой

The main part of the work on decorating the altar and the main part of the largest Orthodox church in the Balkans, the Cathedral of St. Sava in Belgrade, has been completed.

The work on the decoration of the main cathedral of the Serbian Orthodox Church, designed for ten thousand worshipers, lasted for about two years with the broad participation of Russian philanthropists and specialists in the field of architecture. Now, according to RIA Novosti, the admissions committee announced their early and complete completion.

“The first stage, which we did two years ago, was the creation of the mosaic of the dome of the Church of St. Sava, and today we have completed the decoration of the altar and the central part. The works were carried out not only by Russian masters, but also by Serbian ones. And the temple itself is becoming not only the main temple of Serbia, but also a great symbol of Serbian-Russian friendship, ”Deputy Director General for Corporate Communications of Gazprom Neft said to the participants of the Admissions Committee meeting held at the Belgrade Russian Center for Science and Culture“ Russian House ” Alexander Dybal.

Gazprom Neft finances most of the work on the mosaic decoration of the Cathedral of St. Sava. The current work in the main church in Serbia, according to Rossotrudnichestvo, is estimated at about six million euros. Earlier, the Russian company has already invested about four million euros in the mosaic decoration of the dome of the cathedral about four million euros - this work was carried out by Russian specialists under the supervision of People's Artist of Russia Nikolai Mukhin. The second and main stage has now been completed; the work will be fully completed in 2020.

Recall that the cathedral, consecrated in the name of the founder of the Serbian Orthodox Church, Archbishop Savva, was founded in Belgrade in 1894 at the very place where the Turkish invaders burned the relics of this revered saint at the end of the 16th century. The construction of the grandiose Serbo-Byzantine cathedral with an area of 3,650 square meters and a height of 79 meters continued, with interruptions from time to time, throughout the entire twentieth century. Construction work was completed by 2004 - since then, Serbian and Russian specialists have been busy finishing the church. On the Russian side, the progress of interior work on behalf of the President is supervised by Rossotrudnichestvo.
