3D scanning will help restore the Transfiguration Church near Volkhov

3D-сканирование поможет восстановить Спасо-Преображенский храм под Волховом

The method of three-dimensional laser scanning is going to be applied by specialists from St. Petersburg in order to recreate the original appearance of the Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord in the village of Chernavino near Volkhov - first in the form of a computer model, which will subsequently be used for restoration work.

According to the online newspaper NEVA.TODAY, the Church of the Transfiguration of the Savior is in a depressing state today: it has no dome, the windows are clogged, and the roof has collapsed in many places. The first temple that stood on this site was destroyed in the 17th century, and the one erected after it also did not last long by historical standards - finally, in the middle of the 19th century, a brick building was built here, part of which has survived to this day. In Soviet times, the church building was beheaded, a granary was arranged inside - and then completely abandoned.

Now it's time to collect stones. From a bird's eye view, using drones, specialists will scan the building and the surrounding area. The scan results will allow you to place many points, which, when connected together, add up to a three-dimensional model of the temple, exactly reflecting how it was one hundred and fifty years ago.

In accordance with this 3D image, the restoration will then be carried out. It is too early to say when exactly this will happen: funds for the restoration of the old church have not yet been allocated. Local believers are convinced that with God's help they will be found! .. It is in this way that a significant number of architectural monuments have already been restored in the northern capital.
