Description & properties

This pocket-sized icon in a box was hand crafted by Holy Land artisans on olive tree wood, embellished with gold leaf and blessed upon the Stone of Anointing at Jerusalem’s Temple of the Holy Sepulcher.

The image of Christ Pantocrator depicts the Son of God as Heavenly King and Judge, who holds an open book in His left hand, blessing the worshippers with His right hand. This is one of the most important images in Christian iconography, which is generally placed in middle of the iconostasis or in the church’s dome, and at home altar – surrounded by other icons. The blue and red colors of the Savior’s clothes symbolize His combination of the Divine and humane. Above the Almighty’s head shines a cruciform halo: this cross is within canonicity of Catholic, Orthodox and every other Christian confession that acknowledge Jesus as Lord and Salvator Mundi. By tradition cruciform churches that were built in Russia at various times symbolized both the cross as a weapon of salvation and the Savior himself.

People pray before Christ the Almighty icon to avoid sinful thoughts, physical and emotional pain; worshippers ask Him for protection from misfortunes, disillusion and deception. At home it helps to keep peace and harmony, protecting the mutual understanding within the family.

There are other known depictions of this venerated icon, such as “Image of the Savior Made Without Hands”, “God Almighty Enthroned”, and so on. This particular icon of Christ the Almighty dates back to the earliest Byzantine original.
